Real Beauty

At one point during our session, this little one was not in the mood to get her portrait taken.  It happens sometimes, especially when kids get a little over age 5, they become aware of the camera a little more and I have to break through them a little.

Sometimes though, sometimes a pout is the most beautiful thing in the world.  It’s part of who we are – kids aren’t always smiling and laughing and giggling. Just like us they have days where they wake up on the wrong side of the bed.  To me, there is a beauty to that – my job is to capture kids as they really are and sometimes it’s not as happy as we’d like (as I’m sure many moms will agree!).  One of my favorite images of my own son  – he’s in the middle of a complete breakdown – crying, screaming actually, squatting on the grass in his diaper.  It’s so beautiful to me because it’s a side I remember well but it’s fading as he gets older.  I like the pouts, I can’t help it, they are real.

Real, and pretty stunning if you ask me…

I know this is a little different for me, but it had a fashion edge to it, don’t you think?

No worries though!  I got her dancing…

And swinging…

and being quiet…

and being silly…

Just as a kid should.

The pout with the tulle skirt is totally fashionista! Love it. These are so lovely and capture the real essence of childhood – which has so many facets. Beautiful!

I love all of these, especially the picture of her dancing. The spinning dress and the sense of light behind her are beautiful.
