Why I Love Family Photography

Ok, confession time.  When I first started photographing families, I would actually get excited when the parents said they didn’t want to be in the pictures.  I know, horrible.  Let’s face it – kids are just easier to photograph.  They are fun, they are care free.  They have no egos and don’t worry about how they look.  They are pure and everything they do (well, within reason, lol) is beautiful.

Families are a different story.  Moms worry about what they look like.  Dads sometimes would rather be anywhere else.  Parents worry about how their kids are acting and get sad or worried this investment they just made was for nothing.  Initially, that was why I would dread doing family sessions.

Time passed.  It took a lot of work, and a lot of mistakes and a lot of happy accidents to figure out how the heck to get real family images.  I had to get creative to get the right reactions from adults to make photographs that made them realize just how perfect their family was.  Through time I learned is that imperfect is perfect.  I learned that, to me, giggles and hugs make better pictures than everyone standing perfectly side by side.  That realness is beautiful and THAT is where a great family photo begins.  That’s what I wanted to photograph.

So, below a little sampling of what you might get from me in a family session.  If you are looking for that perfect posed images – yes, I take them too.  However, nine times out of ten they are not the ones that end up as artwork on walls.  I promise you that.

I wanted to write this to tell new clients what to expect.  If you are looking for just a shot of your family where everyone is perfectly posed and looking into the camera – I am not the photographer for you.  There are a million family photographers in Westchester and Greenwich.  There is something, literally, for everyone.

However, if you want a loving, fun, happy image that shows your family as they are everyday?  Being silly and laughing?  I’m your girl.

At our session, expect to cuddle.  Expect to hug and kiss and wrestle and love on each other like no one is watching.  Expect to laugh, to be silly and to maybe do things you didn’t think you would do.  (Heck, I’ve had a mom moon her daughter and it was one of my favorite moments EVER.) Expect me to make you all hold each other and to say, “Get closer, even closer, even closer!” until you are laughing at how weird/awesome/great it feels.  Expect to leave saying, hey, that was kind of fun!   Yes, even dads.

THAT is why I do what I do and that is what is different about my work.  It’s why family sessions are my favorite to do.  It’s not work.  It’s play.

I can’t wait to play with you.

Westchester Baby Photography – Baby and Mom on the Beach

All the craziness of the October season, but wanted to show I’m still here, just busy as heck   If you want to see my most recent work, please head over and like my Facebook page, as I’m much better at uploading one image over there!  Just follow the link on the left column.

My favorite image this week – I love that my client trusts me enough to bring her 12 week old to the beach for a couple mom and baby shots.  I’ve been dying to photograph this little one after so many years of photographing her sister.  So beautiful!

Happy Fall everyone!

Welcome to Cristina Coco Photography Studio, Rye, NY

I’ve been wanting to show you a peek inside the studio for quite some time now!  I finally took some interior shots to share with you.  The studio has been a dream for such a long time.  I really wanted it to be calming and peaceful and love the reaction my clients and friends have when they walk through the door.  I also really wanted it to be fun and kid friendly.  Which is why, this is one of the first thing that greets you when you walk in the door…

Cristina Coco Photography Studio_0007Yes, a swing.  I’d always wanted to put one in my house, but I thought work would be the best place to remind me to stay kid like every day.

It’s a small spot, and exactly what I needed.  I’ve managed to give myself a nice work area and a perfect shooting room for babies and small kids.  I’ve also been doing a ton of head shots for authors, bloggers and corporate.  Most importantly, my Sweet and Simple Sessions have been such a popular item lately.  See a HERE to learn more about them – they are the mini sessions I have available all year long, no more waiting once or twice a year.  I am so happy to be able to offer studio work to my clients and cannot believe how much I’ve grown to enjoy them.

Gosh, I’ve finally gotten to a blog post.   This business is so wonderful and I adore every second… but I have to say, the social media part of it is not my strong point.  I love to share my images of my amazing clients, but it is so time consuming!

I picked the peek-a-boo image above because I’m sort of hiding here behind my computer with embarrassment.  I’m sure my clients would rather have me shooting and editing anyway!  ;)

If you follow me on FB, you know that I love to get moms in the picture.  Here is a beautiful one for the moms out there.  Make sure you are in photographs!

Westchester Studio Photography, Sweet and Simple by Cristina Coco

If you follow my Facebook page or live in Rye, you might have noticed that my business has been growing a little bit.  I have a beautiful new photography studio in Rye, NY and I couldn’t be happier.  It’s a place for my clients to come and see the products I offer and a wonderfully cozy spot where I’ve been photographing newborns.  I am here most days or by appointment and it’s become a very special place to me.

Once I got in here though, I wanted more!  I wanted to grow and offer my current and future clients something different from me.  I wanted to see what else I could do in this little spot.  So I played around a bit…

I’m happy to introduce Sweet and Simple by Cristina Coco.  It’s a smaller session.  A cleaner image.  A modern portrait for your little ones and maybe you too.  It’s just another great option for clients of Cristina Coco Photography.

To be clear – I will NEVER stop shooting on location.  I love photographing in people’s homes, at the beach, on grassy fields…  that will not change!  This is just growth, offering more to you.  I am really excited about it.
